Inside Our Workflow: How Devzish Builds Software with Claude Code

A practical look at how we use Claude Code in day-to-day engineering — from scoping and scaffolding to refactors, tests, and reviews — and exactly where human engineers stay in control.

Why Claude Code

Claude Code is an agentic coding tool: it can read a whole codebase, make changes across many files, run commands, and work through a task step by step — with an engineer steering. For us it sits between a fast pair-programmer and a tireless assistant for the mechanical work that used to eat hours.

Our rule of thumb: the AI handles the “how,” our engineers own the “what” and the “is this right.”

Where it fits in a typical build

Across a normal feature or project, we lean on Claude Code at specific moments:

Scoping — exploring an unfamiliar codebase and surfacing edge cases before we estimate.
Scaffolding — standing up models, endpoints, and UI skeletons fast so we get to real work sooner.
Refactoring — applying a consistent change across a large codebase without the usual grind.
Tests — drafting coverage alongside features so quality keeps pace.
Understanding legacy code — explaining how an old system works, which makes handovers and onboarding far quicker.

Where humans stay in control

The tool is fast, but it is not the decision-maker. Architecture, security choices, product trade-offs, and the final review are always ours. Every change Claude Code helps produce goes through the same pull request, the same tests, and the same human sign-off as anything hand-written — the discipline we describe in shipping faster without breaking things.

We are also deliberate about what touches which tools, because client confidentiality and IP matter. More on that in our note on AI, IP, and security.

What it means for clients

The practical upshot: less time on boilerplate, faster onboarding to your codebase, and more engineering attention on the parts that actually move your product. It works across every way of engaging us — fixed-price, hourly, or a dedicated team. See our engagement models or read the wider guide to AI-assisted development.
